How do JotPsych and Mentalyc handle patient data?
With JotPsych, audio is deleted permanently once transcription completes, with no copies in backup or archive. Unsigned notes are deleted automatically after a window the practice sets between 30 and 365 days, and signed notes are kept for at least seven years under the privacy policy (April 2026).
Transcripts are anonymized before processing, with a partial option that keeps first names for family sessions, and Mentalyc treats anonymized transcripts as outside the medical record. Session data is never used to train AI models, the clinician can delete any session data at any time, and account data is kept while the account is active. Audio handling differs. JotPsych deletes audio once transcription completes, while Mentalyc's security page gives two answers, up to three days in one place and immediate deletion after the note in another. Mentalyc presents a SOC 2 Type II attestation as its own without a report period, auditor or scope, while JotPsych credits its independent certifications to its infrastructure host and transcription service and states none for its own operations.
