Freed vs Medscape Scribe

Last VerifiedAugust 4, 2026
Verdict

The cheapest possible experiment against the cheapest usable product. Medscape Scribe is free, sits inside an application most United States physicians already open daily, deletes transcripts after a short stated window and requires no setup at all, which makes it the right way to find out whether ambient documentation actually helps you. Freed is 39 dollars a month, includes a business associate agreement on every tier, publishes an unusually specific security position for a self serve product, and pushes the note into any browser based record system with one click. That last point is the whole difference. A free scribe that hands you a note you then retype into the chart has moved the work rather than removed it. Start free, and move when you notice you are copying and pasting.

Select Freed if
  • Published pricing from a low monthly rate with a trial that takes no credit card, and a business associate agreement included by default on every tier.
  • It pushes the note into any browser based record system with one click, so the documentation reaches the chart rather than the clinician's clipboard.
  • The security disclosure is unusually specific for a self serve product, naming independent audits, cryptographic standards and United States data residency.
Select Medscape Scribe if
  • It costs nothing, with eligibility stated plainly, and it sits inside an application a very large share of United States physicians already open daily.
  • Transcripts are automatically deleted after a short stated window, which is a checkable commitment rather than a general assurance.
  • For a clinician testing whether ambient documentation helps at all, zero cost and zero setup is the cheapest possible experiment.

Disclosure

Freed states that its models are trained only on de identified notes, which means customer content does train the model after de identification and is a different commitment from not training on customer data at all. Medscape publishes no accuracy figure, no security attestation, no business associate terms and no record system integration. Neither publishes a subgroup or accent performance analysis. The free product is funded by pharmaceutical marketing elsewhere in the business, which is not a reason to avoid it but is a reason to understand what the platform gets from your attention.
