How do Mentalyc and Upheal handle patient data?
Transcripts are anonymized before processing, with a partial option that keeps first names for family sessions, and Mentalyc treats anonymized transcripts as outside the medical record. Session data is never used to train AI models, the clinician can delete any session data at any time, and account data is kept while the account is active.
In Upheal's case, transcripts and notes are stored for the practice; audio and video recordings are kept only if the clinician chooses to store them and the client consents, and stay until deleted or until the contract ends. The practice sets the retention period for its records, processing ends one month after the service ends, and data is then returned, deleted or anonymized at the customer's choice. Each states that it holds a SOC 2 Type II attestation and presents it as its own, and neither publishes the report period, the auditor or the services in scope, so ask for the report itself. Neither names the provider of the language model that writes the notes.
