How do Supanote and Upheal handle patient data?
With Supanote, recordings are processed and then deleted immediately, and a clinician can delete notes, transcripts or the whole session history, with automatic note deletion on the higher plan.
In Upheal's case, transcripts and notes are stored for the practice; audio and video recordings are kept only if the clinician chooses to store them and the client consents, and stay until deleted or until the contract ends. The practice sets the retention period for its records, processing ends one month after the service ends, and data is then returned, deleted or anonymized at the customer's choice. Neither vendor publishes an accuracy figure, an evaluation method or results compared across accent, dialect or language, which is the live question when the input is recorded speech. Each states a security attestation as its own without showing it: Supanote's trust center lists SOC 2 and ISO 27001 as complete, and Upheal names a SOC 2 Type II without a report period or scope, with its trust site unreadable at review.
Supanote states that its models were trained on thousands of real therapy notes and does not say where they came from, which is worth asking about. Upheal's outputs lean further into clinical territory than a scribe's, with treatment plans and session analytics, and it states no position on device status at all.
