MedVR Education
MedVR Education offers virtual patient conversations and immersive clinical skills training. AI-Humans lets faculty create patient cases, customize assessment rubrics and review conversation logs. Learners speak with responsive virtual patients and receive automated feedback on their interactions. Cases can run in a browser or in VR, while MedVR Ed Connect lets participants join sessions from a computer.
The broader library covers nursing procedures, emergency care, pediatrics and other clinical topics, with individual and multiplayer practice. A management platform assigns content and tracks learner progress. Sonoran University uses AI-Humans in its naturopathic medicine program, and Texas Children's Hospital developed infection prevention training with MedVR. NBME acquired the platform in 2024, retaining the MedVR Education brand.
Capability Axes
An AI Health Index grade measures what a buyer can verify from public sources on the date shown. It is not a rating of how good the product is. A vendor can build an excellent system and grade low on an axis because it publishes nothing an outsider can check. How grades read
AI-Humans uses learned language and speech capabilities for interactive patient encounters and automated feedback. These functions sit within a wider XR library and training management platform that also provides procedural simulations, content delivery and learner administration.
Faculty create cases and set assessment rubrics, while learners can practice independently and receive immediate automated feedback. Conversation logs support later instructor review. No threshold specifies when the system must stop or refer questionable feedback to faculty.
The 2026 BMC Medical Education study identifies a generative transformer language model trained by MedVR for virtual patient dialogue and feedback. The underlying base model, training corpus and production version change process are unspecified.
The 2026 BMC Medical Education study identifies MedVR as training the dialogue model. That does not identify any underlying model supplier, speech service or hosting chain, or establish which outside parties receive learner conversations.
A July 2026 BMC Medical Education randomized study of 87 learners found no overall advantage over video training. Four MedVR sessions improved perceived competence and confidence but not knowledge. Outcomes were largely self reported, with substantial dropout before the final sample.
Learner completion records and virtual patient transcripts are retained under NBME's purpose based privacy policy. Retention is not fixed for these records, and model training use is unspecified. Procedures for handling unsafe generated feedback are also unclear.
Hospital customers can request a BAA, and HIPAA handling is claimed for clinical content. NBME's service privacy notice explicitly covers MedVR learner records and transcripts. The agreement text and subcontractor obligations remain unavailable.
Account permissions, OAuth authentication and encryption support access control and data protection. NBME also commits to administrative, technical and physical safeguards. No independent security attestation with a defined MedVR application scope accompanies these controls.
MedVR supports education through simulated patient encounters and procedural practice. Learners rehearse clinical reasoning and communication in a training environment. The product does not claim to diagnose or treat real patients as a medical device.
NBME checks patient characteristics for medical relevance across its assessment content. In a 2026 BMC Medical Education study, a psychotherapist also compared automated feedback on four sessions. That limited comparison does not establish performance across patient or language groups.
Learners can contact MedVR directly to verify, modify or request deletion of their completion records and virtual patient transcripts. This provides a vendor correction route for retained data, without a guarantee that generated clinical feedback is accurate.
Hospital plans name HealthStream integration, while the XR platform supports xAPI, LTI and custom APIs for learning systems. These connections concern training administration and learner records. A clinical EHR connection and detailed production data directions are not established.
Training runs on headsets and through web or desktop access, with centralized administration. NBME's privacy policy places personal information processing and storage in the US. Tenant isolation and the complete processing route for generated conversations are unspecified.
The main offer is an annual subscription with unlimited sessions and a demo led purchase process. Institution and hospital plans require a quote. Institution size and deployment scope shape the package, without a stated license price.
The library spans nursing, emergency care, pediatrics, mental health and procedural skills. Texas Children's Hospital uses infection prevention training, and Sonoran University deploys virtual patient encounters. These examples support selected uses rather than validation of every specialty collection.
