Eleos keeps the AI-generated note suggestions and user engagement data and states that it retains them for refining its models, together with minimal session identifying information: clinician ID, session date and time, client unique ID and name.
In Upheal's case, transcripts and notes are stored for the practice; audio and video recordings are kept only if the clinician chooses to store them and the client consents, and stay until deleted or until the contract ends. The practice sets the retention period for its records, processing ends one month after the service ends, and data is then returned, deleted or anonymized at the customer's choice. Eleos frames its product as augmented rather than autonomous intelligence: it drafts note content, which Eleos says covers about 80 percent of a typical progress note, and the provider reviews, tweaks and submits. With Upheal, the clinician can pause capture for a sensitive topic or a whole session, which stops transcription for that span. These fit different organizations and the mismatch is the main risk in both directions. Eleos gates pricing entirely, which makes it hard for a small practice to evaluate, and its strongest study is small and single site while its marketing claims reach further; ask for multi site results. Upheal is built around one practice and has no published answer for a multi site organization with supervisors and compliance staff.
Upheal states a SOC 2 Type II attestation as its own without a report period or scope, and its trust site could not be read at review, so ask for the report directly. Neither names the provider of the language model behind the notes, and neither publishes performance compared across accent, dialect or language, which matters wherever clients speak with accents the training data may under represent.
