Corti vs TORTUS (2026)
Two European clinical AI companies that publish real engineering, built for different jobs. Corti builds its own speech, note generation and coding models and sells them as infrastructure, with FactsR for live fact by fact review, a sovereign cloud that can run on premise, and research published at EMNLP and INTERSPEECH. TORTUS builds a finished product for the NHS: the Shell removes unsupported statements before the clinician sees the note, its OSLER agent acts inside the record using voice, vision and clicks, and it co ran a nine site NHS evaluation covering more than 17,000 patients. Corti gives new accounts $50 of free credits and then charges pay as you go, with speech to text at $0.0065 a minute and note generation, medical coding and agents at $4 per million input tokens and $16 per million output tokens, all drawn from one credit wallet.
TORTUS Enterprise for NHS trusts costs £200,000 a year for up to 100,000 hours of audio processed, with unlimited user licenses across departments, then £2 an hour beyond that, and includes onboarding, site visits, template customization and a live reporting dashboard. How do Corti and TORTUS handle patient data?
Corti's data processing agreement keeps personal data for the life of the contract and deletes it 30 days after termination.
In TORTUS's case, the company states that no model is trained on customer data and no data is retained, gives patient audio retained at rest as zero by design, and its data processing addendum says transcriptions, summaries and letters are not stored in the system; deleted data is cryptographically erased. Neither vendor publishes a business associate agreement for US customers; TORTUS sells under UK data protection law and Corti publishes no position. Corti's evidence is research on its models and a 2026 KLAS First Look score, with no study of the ambient product's effect on clinician time or note quality.
