Product / capability

AKASA launched an autonomous platform for inpatient medical coding and clinical documentation integrity, building on its AI prebill review products. The company says it fully codes complex inpatient cases with no human intervention, in under 90 seconds after discharge, using models fine tuned to each health system. AKASA reports that blinded third party evaluations found its coding matched or exceeded human coders on MS-DRG assignment, principal diagnosis and present on admission accuracy.

Our read

Inpatient coding is where autonomy has been hardest to trust, because errors carry both reimbursement and compliance risk. The evaluations are not published, so health systems should ask to see them and plan a phased rollout, which AKASA says it designs with each customer.
