NextGen Ambient Assist vs Veradigm Ambient Scribe

Last VerifiedAugust 4, 2026
Verdict

Two ambulatory record system vendors that each built a scribe into the chart, and the honest finding is that both are thinly documented and one is thinner. NextGen publishes a purpose limitation on transcripts, a conservative review gate where codes and orders are suggestions rather than pre filled, and 26 specialty template sets underneath. Veradigm publishes no specialty count, no accuracy figure and no product specific security or business associate posture, and its scribe is built by a separate company it does not name on the product. Against that, Veradigm carries the single most interesting privacy claim located in this category: capture through speech to text that creates transcripts without generating an audio recording at all. If that survives contract review it is a better answer than any retention policy. Ask for it in writing, and if it is not there, NextGen is the better documented of the two.

Select NextGen Ambient Assist if
  • The oversight posture is the most conservative among the record system native scribes here. The note lands pending provider review and codes, medications and orders are suggestions rather than pre filled entries.
  • Data handling is described rather than asserted: conversations become temporary transcripts used only to generate the structured note, and documentation flows into the Enterprise record instead of persisting on the mobile device.
  • Twenty six specialty template sets in the parent platform and an ambulatory base of independent and specialty practices, against a scribe whose specialty coverage is not published at all.
Select Veradigm Ambient Scribe if
  • If it holds contractually, capture without an audio recording is the strongest privacy position either vendor offers, because a recording that was never made cannot be retained, breached or subpoenaed.
  • Real time prompts tuned to each practice's own protocols, plus structured clinical, SOAP and referral note types written directly into the record.
  • Candour about language. Veradigm states that multilingual capture produces English documentation, which is a limitation most competitors leave a buyer to discover in a pilot.

Disclosure

Neither vendor is available outside its own record system, so for nearly every buyer this comparison is decided by an EHR decision made years earlier. NextGen publishes an over 90 percent accuracy figure with no definition, denominator, reference standard or specialty breakdown, which cannot be compared with anything.

Veradigm publishes no accuracy figure and no specialty count, and its scribe is powered by an unnamed third party, so the subprocessor question is live rather than theoretical. Neither publishes a bias, accent or dialect performance statement, a business associate agreement template, or a product level security attestation as distinct from a hosting provider's.
