Isomorphic Labs vs Valo Health (2026)

AI Health Index verifiedOctober 13, 2026
Verdict

Research collaborations with drug companies are how Isomorphic Labs and Valo Health sell their AI, rather than products, and neither has taken a molecule of its own design into the clinic. What each brings to a partner differs: Isomorphic brings a design engine built on the structure of the target, and Valo brings human data that says which target to pursue. Isomorphic's drug design engine, IsoDDE, grew out of AlphaFold 3, which it released with Google DeepMind in 2024. It predicts protein ligand structures, finds binding sites from a protein sequence alone, estimates binding affinity and models antibody antigen interfaces, while design agents generate molecules against a specification. The company reports IsoDDE more than doubling AlphaFold 3's accuracy on the protein ligand cases least like its training data. Novartis, Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson are partners, and a $2.1 billion Series B in May 2026 funds the work. Valo's Opal platform works further upstream. It groups de identified patient histories into subtypes, ranks targets with causal inference and statistical genetics, checks them in human data, and then runs small molecule chemistry in a loop with its laboratory. Novo Nordisk's agreement, the one with public terms, covers up to twenty cardiometabolic programs. When the target is known and the hard part is the molecule, whether a small molecule, an antibody or a molecular glue, Isomorphic fits. When choosing the target is the open question and small molecules are the modality, Valo fits.

The case for Isomorphic Labs
  • The target is known, and structure based design is the bottleneck.
  • Binding sites need to be found from a protein sequence alone.
  • The modality could be a small molecule, antibody, peptide or molecular glue.
  • The partner wants to work with the team behind AlphaFold 3.
The case for Valo Health
  • Which target to pursue is still undecided.
  • Human data has to confirm the target before any chemistry.
  • Disease subtypes found in real world records should shape the program.
  • A collaboration spanning many cardiometabolic programs is the model.

Each vendor in one paragraph

Written to be quoted whole. Each paragraph states what the AI Health Index verified about the vendor, with the caveats attached.

Isomorphic Labs

Isomorphic Labs designs drugs with IsoDDE, an engine that extends AlphaFold 3 with binding site, affinity and antibody models and generative design agents, for its own oncology and immunology programs and for Novartis, Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson.

Valo Health

Valo Health chooses what to drug before designing anything, using AI and knowledge graphs on de identified patient histories, and runs its small molecule chemistry with Novo Nordisk and other partners.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Do Isomorphic Labs and Valo Health choose targets the same way?

No. Isomorphic designs against targets chosen by its partners or its own programs and can locate binding sites from sequence. Valo selects targets by applying causal inference and statistical genetics to patient records and checks them in human data first. From the AI Health Index, drawn from each vendor's own published materials and the regulatory record, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.

What results have Isomorphic Labs and Valo Health published?

Isomorphic published IsoDDE benchmark results in February 2026, including 2.3 times AlphaFold 3's rate of high fidelity antibody antigen predictions. Valo has disclosed partner progress, such as several novel cardiometabolic targets identified with Novo Nordisk. From the AI Health Index, drawn from each vendor's own published materials and the regulatory record, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.

Is a molecule from Isomorphic Labs or Valo Health in a clinical trial?

Not from either platform. Isomorphic says its preclinical data is helping it prepare for clinical development, and Valo's only clinical readout, for OPL-0401, did not come from its platform. From the AI Health Index, drawn from each vendor's own published materials and the regulatory record, verified October 13, 2026. No vendor pays for placement.
