Caris launched an enhanced Caris Assure liquid biopsy that combines whole exome sequencing, whole transcriptome sequencing and whole blood analysis in one assay, so tumor derived alterations can be told apart from clonal hematopoiesis and incidental germline findings. Coverage spans more than 23,000 genes at depths up to 40,000x. For patients tested repeatedly during treatment, results are now sorted into molecular response, intermediate or molecular progression, with a median turnaround of about seven days.

The serial monitoring categories turn a one time profiling test into a way to track whether a treatment is working. Caris says tumor fraction correlates with progression risk, but the release does not publish the validation data behind that claim.

Caris Life Sciences published a study in npj Precision Oncology reporting that its AI guided therapy selection predicts longer survival in pancreatic cancer patients. Pancreatic cancer is a deliberately hard test case, with short survival and few targetable alterations, so a survival signal there is a stronger claim than the same signal in a more tractable tumor type. The work validates Caris AI Insights specifically rather than the molecular profiling platform in general.

This is peer reviewed and reports survival rather than a surrogate such as concordance with a tumor board or rate of actionable findings, which places it at the top of the evidence hierarchy in this category. Oncology services can cite it directly when justifying AI guided profiling to a formulary or utilization committee. The caveat buyers should carry is that predicting longer survival in a retrospective cohort is not the same as demonstrating that following the recommendation caused it, and the study design determines which of those two claims is supported.

Caris added two Caris AI Insights signatures assessing brain metastasis risk in breast and lung cancer, bringing its proprietary signature count to seven. The signatures were trained on 12,994 NSCLC cases and 3,371 breast cancer cases with matched survival outcomes, and generate a personalized predictive score from a patient's whole exome and whole transcriptome data, visualized as Kaplan Meier curves. The signature itself matters less than what it reveals about how to read this vendor. Caris publishes training cohort sizes per signature, which is more disclosure than most AI diagnostics offer and lets a clinician judge whether their patient population is represented. But the signatures ship inside a research use only report, while the underlying MI Cancer Seek assay carries FDA approved companion diagnostic indications. Those are different regulatory objects arriving in the same envelope at no extra cost, and the distinction governs how a result can be used in a treatment decision. Confirm with your pathology and legal teams which outputs are approved for clinical use before signatures reach a tumor board.
